Basset Hound Breed History
The Basset hound is a cross breed of basset artesian Normand and regular artesian Normand. They originated from the famous text which was written by a French author named Jacques Du Foullix during the 16th century. It is found that they closely resemble to the basset artesian Normand, which exists even today. Basset artesian is one of the identified French bassets. The external appearance of this type of breed is that their body is straight shaped. Its body length is two times lengthier than its leg’s length. But their weight is lighter. Its head is of dome shaped and cheeks are covered with its coat. The main appearance is its ears, they are lengthy and droopy. Its chest is broader, and its sternum is visible.

Its coat is not much longer. The coat can be either bicolor or tricolored. The color may vary from white, tan and black. Mostly it is a blend with white color. During the 20th century, the basset artesian Normand had a well emerging dominate line and where grouped in 2 different lines. At that time French breeders developed breeds that had the qualities of both the types. The character of artesian basset was that it had endless energy and could never slow down. It was found in 1910. Later in 1930 an organization was created, which excelled in training, breeding, obedience, and other things like that established the breed.
